CASTLETOWN LAWN TENNIS CLUB TO BECOME ALL-YEAR ROUND OUTDOOR TENNIS FACILITY
Castletown Lawn Tennis Club will be resurfacing its three tennis courts with AstroTurf thanks to a Manx Lottery Trust grant of £36,680.
The club, which currently has three Tarmacadam courts and a clubhouse situated in Malew Street, Castletown, has made the decision to switch to an AstroTurf surface to promote all-year round use.
The club hosts a number of tennis-related activities including coaching programmes, amateur tournaments and classes, open to all ages and abilities.
William Watterson, Treasurer at Castletown Lawn Tennis Club, said: ‘We’re delighted to have received this funding from Manx Lottery Trust which will see Castletown Lawn Tennis Club convert its three tennis courts to AstroTurf. The change in surface will allow the courts to be available all year round and in all weather conditions.
‘AstroTurf’s softer surface also has less impact on muscles and joints, which means we can host additional junior programmes for the youngsters, and our more elderly members will be able to play for longer. The transformation is going to have a really positive impact on the club’s longevity – not only will it benefit our existing members, but we hope will attract new individuals to the club from across the community who perhaps want to get back into tennis, want to get fit and healthy, or just have some fun and socialise.’
Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, added: ‘The Trust is please to support Castletown Lawn Tennis Club with the conversion of its tennis courts. Becoming an all-year round outdoor tennis facility will provide benefit to the southern community, and we wish the club every success with the project.’
