GIRLGUIDING ISLE OF MAN SUPPORTED BY MANX LOTTERY TRUST

The Manx Lottery Trust has awarded the Island’s largest voluntary youth organisation for girls and young women, Girlguiding Isle of Man (part of Girlguiding UK), a grant of £6,000.

The funding will be used towards the rollout of a new programme, which will provide Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers with brand new resources, including handbooks, badge books, unit activity cards and skills builders.

Programme resources will improve activity planning so meetings are fun, challenging and educational for the young girls, helping them to take more of a leading role in activities and aiding the development of essential skills, from innovation to leadership and communication.

The curriculum is built around six themes - ‘Know Myself’, ‘Express Myself’, ‘Be Well’, ‘Have Adventures’, ‘Take Action’ and ‘Skills For My Future’ – and has been designed to provide a well-rounded experience and help members to express their sense of self and how they relate to the wider world.

Karen Walker, from Girlguiding Isle of Man, said: ‘The Trustees, volunteers and members are all excited about the implementation of this new programme, which is being phased in over the next year. It will be of huge benefit to the girls and young women as they develop into well-rounded adults and prepare them for whatever challenges life throws at them.

‘A big thank you goes out to the Manx Lottery Trust for its support of this project. It takes some of the financial pressures away and means our volunteers can focus their attention on the girls’ development rather than fundraising activities, which is a huge help.’
