LAWN BOWLS PLAYERS IN ONCHAN TO BENEFIT FROM NEW FACILITIES

Manx Lottery Trust has awarded Lawn Bowls IOM with a £45,000 grant which will facilitate the build of a new clubhouse.

Lawn Bowls IOM has been established for 46 years, and its members are of varying ages and sectors of the community, from across the Island.

Situated at Onchan Park, there is an existing log cabin structure which the club and members use, however it is modest, basic and is in much need of a replacement.

The facility is used as the base for the main administration and delivery of the sport, the primary meeting point, source of information and competition venue. It provides players with changing facilities, training and coaching sessions, basic refreshments, storage and community activities.

Clive McGreal, Treasurer of Lawn Bowls IOM, said: ‘The Manx Lottery Trust funding will allow for the construction of a base for the erection of a pre-fabricated log cabin type together with service and internal fittings. The new facility is of an improved specification, meaning it will have a longer lifecycle utilisation, and will be around for future generations of lawn bowls players to use and enjoy.

‘The support from the Trust is hugely appreciated by all involved at the club.’

Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, said: ‘The replacement clubhouse is a worthy project which we are delighted to fund, and we hope the new facility will enhance the overall experiences for members, current and new.’ To keep up to date with Lawn Bowls IOM, visit www.facebook.com/lawnbowlsiom/
