ST JOHN'S METHODIST CHURCH TO LAUNCH WEEKLY WARM SPACE EVENT
Manx Lottery Trust have awarded funding to St John’s Methodist Church which will allow volunteers to host a weekly event for local residents during winter.
With the £1,265 grant, the church hall will be able to open to the public every Thursday morning from 10am until 12pm and provide free hot beverages and cake or toast.
This grant was administered from the Trust’s Community Warm Spaces Fund, which supports initiatives which aim to provide communities with access to a warm space over the winter months.
As well as the refreshments, the group also plan to offer social activities, such as crafts and puzzles, to encourage interactions and create connections. There will also be newspapers, magazines and a children’s play area.
Helen Robinson, one of the organisers said: ‘We’re thrilled that we can launch this initiative and welcome people to a nice warm hall, thanks to the support of the Manx Lottery Trust. We’d like to welcome people of all ages to join us during the Thursday mornings – we all need to stick together during these difficult times!’
Sarah Kelly, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, added: ‘This is great idea from St John’s Methodist Church, and one which will hopefully provide a little bit of relief to anyone struggling this winter.’
